Where is your faith? This is a question Jesus once asked His disciples…and I believe it is a question He still asks today.
I know most of us are familiar with the story but let’s take a fresh look at it in the Bible.
Luke 8:22-25 says; Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out. But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. But He said to them, “Where is your faith?”
These men had walked with Jesus, witnessed, first hand, the miracles of Jesus, yet when a storm arose they became afraid and filled with unbelief.
Jesus had already said ‘let’s go to the other side.’ Knowing Jesus, walking daily with Jesus, you would have thought they would trust in His words.
However, just as it was with the disciples that day, when the devil attempts to block our path or throw distractions in our way, at times we tend to take our eyes off Jesus as well.
Many times we think ‘well, if I had walked with Jesus in person, spoke to Him in person, I would not have doubt.’ However, I don’t believe that is always true – yes, we can get to a place where we are walking so close with Jesus that nothing moves us. I, personally, pressed toward that place daily, however, I do still have times where I struggle to keep my focus on Jesus in the midst of the battle.
What happens during those times? Those times, when like the disciples, we get our eyes off Jesus and on the storm before us?
It’s simple, we have more faith in the lies of the devil than in the word of God. John 8:44 says; You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
I often think, if we could get this one thing in our mind; THE DEVIL HAS NOTHING BUT LIES, and realize anything he says is a lie and the opposite is truth, we would not struggle in the area of faith as much.
Jesus said; he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. Truth is not a resource he can draw from, only lies.
When we have more faith in the lies of the devil than we do in God’s word and what He has spoken to us…we cannot receive anything from God.
The Bible says Jesus Himself could do no miracles in his own town because of their unbelief. We cannot believe the lies of the devil and the word of God at the same time.
The Bible also says a man who wavers in his faith will receive nothing from the Lord.
It’s time we see the devils lies for what they are…LIES.
It’s time to believe with all our heart, mind and soul and stand firm on the word of God. It’s time to believe what Jesus has said…if He has said you are healed, then you are healed. If He has said, you are going to the other side, then, my friend, you are going to the other side, storms may come but they will not stop you as long as you stay in the boat with Jesus.
Romans 10:10 says; For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
We must believe with our heart. And, we must remember, our heart believes what our mouth speaks. Watch the words that are coming out of your mouth, make sure they align with God’s word and God’s plan for your life.
Each one reading this today has faith in something. We either have faith in what our body says or what the word of God says. We either have faith in our checking account balance or what the word of God says. We either have faith in what we see our children doing or what the word of God says about them. We have faith in something. Today, I encourage you to check your heart and check your mouth and make sure your faith is in God and His word.
Mark 11:22 says; Have faith in God. Jesus is saying ‘have GOD faith in you.’ Trust God, trust God like Jesus trusted God. Have that kind of faith, the God kind of faith….no other faith will produce anything.
Today, I encourage you to have the God kind of faith. Trust God and resist the devil and his lies…he will flee as you do, the word of God promises you that.
Prayer for today: Father, I ask you to give each person reading this today an impartation of the God kind of faith. Let YOUR faith in them arise today, in Jesus name. Amen.
