“On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” Mark 4:35-40

A few months ago, I was spending time with God, actually, I was whining to God and saying ‘how much longer?’ Oddly enough he answered my whining. He said ‘just ____ more months.’ At the time I thought ‘are you kidding me? That is a long time.’ However, I knew that voice, it was that still small voice that he speaks to me with at times, and I know not to argue or question that voice. I had my answer and now I had to wait.

The first month wasn’t so bad, however lately there have been challenges. This morning I was talking to God and thinking about that time frame when he again, spoke to me. He said ‘there are many people who think they are not going to make it to the other side, tell them I said they will make it.’

That’s all he said. He didn’t give me any nuggets about how to get there – he just said to tell you, if that’s you, that you WILL make it to the other side.

As I prayed about this I was reminded of the scriptures found in Mark 4, when Jesus told the disciples they were going to the other side.

We all know the story; a storm arose and the disciples didn’t think they were going to make it so they woke Jesus up. Let’s look at what happened next in the Amplified Bible:

“And a furious storm of wind of hurricane proportions arose, and the waves kept beating into the boat, so that it was already becoming filled. But He Himself was in the stern of the boat, asleep on the leather cushion; and they awoke Him and said to Him, Master, do You not care that we are perishing? And He arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Hush now! Be still! And the wind ceased, sank to rest as if exhausted by its beating and there was immediately a great calm, a perfect peacefulness. He said to them, why are you so timid and fearful? How is it that you have no faith no firmly relying trust?”

Jesus spoke to the storm and immediately there was calm and peace. He still does that today – now, he does it through us. You have the ability to speak to your storm and the winds that surround you and command peace and calm.

There is no reason to be timid or fearful, Jesus is with you. You must maintain your firmly, relying trust. Why? Because he has said ‘we are going to the other side.’ And today he is saying ‘you WILL make it to the other side.’

I don’t know about you, but I am going to take his word on it. And I am going to rest in him. Just as he rested that day.

One thing on saw in this story that I didn’t realize before. Scripture says; Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him.

Apparently other boats, little boats were following him. They all made it to the other side.

Friends, if you have launched out on his word and the winds of adversity have begun to blow making you feel as if you won’t make it to the other side, remember, they are only winds and they are subject to the one you serve, therefore they are subject to you; speak to them. And know this…you will arrive on the other side, simply trust in him and his word.
